As such a beautiful place to live–and to retire–there are many seniors in Victoria who are looking for support or a sense of community. For this Friday Feature, during British Columbia’s Bike to Work Week 2017 (#BTWW2017), we wanted to highlight Cycling Without Age, a volunteer-run organization that takes seniors for free bicycle rides.
Welcome Cycling Without Age to Victoria
Cycling Without Age originated in Copenhagen, Denmark and has expanded into 28 countries with 1,000 bikes and over 8,000 volunteers. The organization uses trishaw bicycles, a three-wheeled, electric-assisted bicycle, that allows a wide range of volunteers to bike–from students, family members, neighbours and beyond.
The first trishaw bicycle in Victoria is housed at the Beckley Farm Lodge operated by the Broadmead Care Society. This is the 6th chapter in Canada and 1st in BC.
Promoting intergenerational relationships, and providing seniors with an opportunity to connect with neighbours, nature and fresh air, Cycling Without Age works to improve the lives of the elderly in Victoria.
Get Involved with CWAVictoria
A fun opportunity to get out and volunteer, Cycling without Age is looking for volunteer pilot’s or companion passengers.
The organization is looking for donations to expand their newly launched program–launched on May 29th, 2017!
