In addition to helping you do more for your community by giving back, at HeartPress, we’re here to motivate you through the stories of local businesspeople who are already doing incredible good. We’re so pleased to start off this Giving Back feature series with a truly inspiring individual: Al Hasham.

In preparation for National Volunteer Week, we sat down and became inspired by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria (BBBS) and the relationships they create. This year, BBBS is celebrating their 40th anniversary in the Greater Victoria community. With 40 years under their belt, BBBS Victoria supports more than 600 vulnerable children and families every year.
From March 3rd to 11th, Victoria Beer Week 2017 was made up of 9 days with 16 different events. The wide spectrum of gatherings, organized by the Victoria Beer Week Society, around Greater Victoria showcased a combination of BC craft brews and local artisans.
From Victoria Beer Week favourites to newly unveiled events, the week offered something for every craft brew connoisseur, beer geek, and newbie.
We thought we would give a nod to a few female social entrepreneurs, especially on International Women’s Day. These women are creating and building businesses that contribute enormously to not only a global economy but are solving real world social problems in innovative ways. We are both inspired and humbled by these women who are using business to help change the world.

All our Valentine cards for the HeartGrams campaign were created by BooToYou, a local business that specializes in designing light-hearted greeting cards for every occasion, from weddings to divorce to babies to vasectomies.
BooToYou cards are created with more wit than wisdom; sometimes brash, but always crafted with class. There’s something there for everyone. We sat down with Sarah to get the inside scoop on the secrets behind her inspiration, never-ending-creativity, and take on humour.
HeartPress PR’s mantra, helping businesses do good, has inspired our latest campaign to unite companies all while building a community that supports one another. Our unique Valentine’s Day HeartGrams are just one of the ways we’re currently helping local businesses give back through supporting local causes.
We’ve talked about the importance of CSR (that’s corporate social responsibility) in order to recruit great talent. But a stand-out community investment portfolio isn’t only helpful in bulking up the back end of your business. CSR is also an excellent strategy for enticing new customers, and spreading news of your business through positive word of mouth and media.
To conclude our #SocialGood gift guide series, we’ve rounded up several stocking stuffers. Stockings are a great way to gift little treats and of course, necessities. With our final #SocialGood product round-up, each gift will also make an impact on another life. A bracelet that provides AIDS medication in Sub-Saharan Africa by Lokai or the bamboo toothbrush that gives a child in need a chance to flourish. Small or large, these gifts can make an impact–one life at a time.
Give a book, gift the opportunity of vision or plant a tree. Products with a manifesto for #SocialGood double as gifts that make an impact. Alike to the leader TOMS, whose claim to fame started with their ‘One for One’ shoe model, there are even more ways to gift and give back this holiday season. As leaders in their fields, the following companies are paving the way for other businesses to become accountable with the impact they making both locally and internationally.
As we continue our #SocialGood series that was kickstarted on GivingTuesday last week with gifts for the hostess, we’ve rounded up some gifts for kids that give back. Gifting an ethical or one-for-one product like a Cuddle + Kind hand-knit doll feels great and makes an impact, but more importantly, it has the power to teach a child the importance of giving.
