Campaigns To Inspire Your Holiday Corporate Giving 


WestJet always strives to make the holiday season a little happier for a lucky group of passengers, but last year the airline turned their attention to those affected by the Fort McMurray forest fires. The company organized the Snowflake Soiree, to which more than 800 people were invited. The event featured a performance by Canadian country singer Johnny Reid, and wrapped, personalized gifts were parachuted down from the sky. The company also donated a free flight to each family.  2017’s holiday campaign includes 12 flights of Christmas. 



Operation Holiday Cheer is this shipping company’s way of giving back over the holiday season. The program delivers Christmas trees and decorations to soldiers stationed overseas, and has been spreading winter joy for more than a decade. The idea developed after a mother approached the company in 2004 to find out if she could send a tree to her son in Iraq. To date, more than 9,000 trees have been delivered around the world.


The original online shopping centre, eBay has held various holiday campaigns over the years. Last year, Gifts that Give Back enabled nonprofit organizations to “sell” donations on the site, with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity in question. Groups like Habitat for Humanity, the American Cancer Society, and the ASPCA took part in the campaign.



Since beginning their “1% for the Planet” campaign in 1985, Patagonia has donated $74 million  to various grassroots organizations. Last year, the company took their social consciousness one step further and announced they would be adding a couple of zeros to their usual 1%. On the busiest shopping day of the year – Black Friday – the company donated all proceeds from in-store and online purchases. Their goal of two million dollars was vastly exceeded: they ended up donating $10 million.


A few years ago, this company that specializes in creating shortened, shareable links partnered with the American Red Cross to encourage donations to the organization. Visitors to the site were encouraged to create a “hope.ly” link instead, and when they did so, a banner encouraging donations to the Red Cross was added to the top of the linked page. Major companies like the New York Times and Huffington Post took part in the link sharing, which resulted in more than 80,000 links and 1 million clicks in the first month alone.


Each year, the department store giant honours the men and women of the U.S. navy and army by partnering with military non-profit organizations. The company has donated more than $2.5 million in products and transportation costs to Wreaths Across America, a group that delivers wreaths around the country for placement on veteran graves. Wal-Mart also works with Operation Homefront, reaching out to military families in need to provide all the fixings for a family holiday meal.
