It’s September 21st, which means it’s the International Day of Peace! This day was established in 1981 by the United Nations to strengthen ideals of peace across the world.
To celebrate Peace Day, we’re sharing our favourite non-profit organizations in BC that advocate for peace.
What is the International Day of Peace?
The International Day of Peace, or “Peace Day”, is observed around the world and provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
This year’s #peaceday celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “The Right to Peace- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70.”
To celebrate Peace Day, we’re sharing our favourite non-profit organizations in BC that advocate for peace, in Canada and beyond. Whether they focus on food security, human rights, or sustainable housing, these non-profits bring peace to those they connect with.

Dialogue and Resolution Services are the South Island’s only non-profit specializing in conflict resolution, providing assistance to individuals, families, co-workers, neighbours and businesses. They provide a safe, reliable and professional alternative to going to court in order to resolve conflict and plan the way forward.
PeaceGeeks | Vancouver
PeaceGeeks build digital tools to empower communities in the pursuit of peace. They collaborate with communities to put technology tools and digital literacy in the hands of citizens, peacebuilders, human rights defenders and humanitarian responders.
