Today, July 13th, marks the two year anniversary since Markus Pukonen of Routes of Change began his journey around the world in support of a sustainable future. 730 days later and Pukonen has made it to 9 Countries, 17 Cities and over 25,000km without the use of a motor.
This year marks our Country’s 150th birthday. In celebration of Canada, companies have been launching contests and promotions throughout the year. As giving back proves to be a key theme of the #Canada150 campaigns, we have rounded up a few excellent examples of companies who are leading the way for the next 150 years.
The Anawim House “is a refuge, a home, a meeting ground, and a source of hope for many of Victoria’s street community.” They are a family inside Victoria’s street community, a resource for the homeless. Acting to break the “us vs. them” stigma around homelessness they have built a community. We sat down with Anawim and were delighted to learn about their involvement within the Greater Victoria community.
As such a beautiful place to live–and to retire–there are many seniors in Victoria who are looking for support or a sense of community. For this Friday Feature, during British Columbia’s Bike to Work Week 2017 (#BTWW2017), we wanted to highlight Cycling Without Age, a volunteer-run organization that takes seniors for free bicycle rides.
This weekend marks a couple large events happening within our local community. National Volunteer Week 2017 is wrapping up on Saturday and many Victorians will hit the ground running on Sunday morning for the 28th annual TC10K run.
If you follow our newsletter, you already know that at HeartPress we’ve been helping the TC10K highlight their charity partners and sponsors. To kick-off the weekend, we wanted to share a couple of courageous, inspiring stories that touched our hearts.
Starting this Sunday, for the next week something special is happening in our community: #NationalVolunterWeek. This is the 14th consecutive year that Volunteer Canada has delivered the campaign and the second year that Volunteer Victoria has brought the campaign to our community.
In the name of Helping Businesses Do Good, at HeartPress PR we are inspired through innovative ways to give back for both businesses and individuals. Everyone has different goals and resources in mind when it comes to giving back, but in the end doing good means all the difference. Without further ado, here is a look at our latest Friday Feature, Charity Charge – a credit card with a social enterprise mission.
“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself” – Oprah Winfrey
In preparation for National Volunteer Week, we sat down and became inspired by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria (BBBS) and the relationships they create. This year, BBBS is celebrating their 40th anniversary in the Greater Victoria community. With 40 years under their belt, BBBS Victoria supports more than 600 vulnerable children and families every year.
To conclude our #SocialGood gift guide series, we’ve rounded up several stocking stuffers. Stockings are a great way to gift little treats and of course, necessities. With our final #SocialGood product round-up, each gift will also make an impact on another life. A bracelet that provides AIDS medication in Sub-Saharan Africa by Lokai or the bamboo toothbrush that gives a child in need a chance to flourish. Small or large, these gifts can make an impact–one life at a time.
